"The Goat Ride" is a funding ride for the
Indiana Bicycle Coalition and Brown County State Park.

The Routes: There are four routes which vary in length and difficulty.  Riders can do this  event "The Easy Way" or the "NOT so Easy Way"!!  Each route is clearly marked and loops back to the registration tents located by the swimming pool inside the north entrance of Brown County State Park.  Lunch and snacks/water/gatorade will be served under the tents throughout the day.  Riders can complete as many of the  routes as they wish and will receive a completion coin for each route that they finish.  Some of the routes are more difficult than others but all wind through beautiful southern Indiana!  You like hills?  We got HILLS!     Preview the routes.  Maps and wristbands for re-entry to the park will be issued on event day to each rider.  "The Witch" is one of the routes - YIKES!  The name says it all!  But the 25 mile "Baby Bear" will suit pleasure riders just fine!  Depending on your route choices, The Goat Ride is appropriate for both recreational cyclists and endurance riders looking for a tough workout. We would recommend, however,  that you be able to complete at least a 25 mile ride on your own without difficulty in order to sign up for this event. Make sure you have proper gearing on your bike for the bigger climbs or ya might be walkin'!

Can you complete ALL the routes?:  Last year was the second year for The Goat Ride.  We had  26 men & women (who were they?) that were able to complete all four of the routes which total 116 miles!  Special momentos will be presented to folks in 2012 who can complete all the routes and their names are recorded on the next year's t-shirt.  Folks attempting all 4 four routes are encouraged to start prior ot 8:00 a.m.  Registration will be open as early at 6:00 a.m. so you can get on the road!

Jerseys, Socks and T-shirts:  VERY COOL Custom "Goat Ride" jerseys are available for purchase this year!  Jerseys are $69.00 with your pre-registration.   T-shirts are $15.00.  When you pre-register for the ride you will be asked if you wish to purchase a jersey or  t-shirt.  We will also have a limited number of sizes in jerseys and t-shirts on hand on event day for sale.

Brown County State Park: Beautiful!  Brown County State Park is a wonderful place to visit.  Hiking, swimming, tennis, and horse back riding are all available.  Overnight camping is available at two very nice campgrounds inside the park. Call 812-988.6406 for reservations.  Make reservations early!  There are also many campgrounds and hotels outside of the park in Nashville that offer good rates and services.  The park offers showers at the swimming pool for $2 for sweaty riders!

Lunch:  Lunch will be served in the park from 10:30-1:00 p.m.  Yummy!  Snacks, gatorade and water will be available throughout the day.  We'll have the grills going, the water iced down and a shady spot waiting for ya!

SAG Stops:  New this year we will have at least one SAG stop on each route (except for the 12 mile route).  We hope to set up SAGS at The Butler Winery, The Herb and Flower Barn and the Gatesville Store.  There will also be  roaming SAG vehicles out on the course which can provide light mechanical support and a ride back in if a rider is stranded for any reason.   There are also stores, gas stations with bathrooms and the like along each route and these public stops are noted on your route maps.  Some of them are very quaint rural establishments that are SURE to entertain you in many ways!

Is it a race?: No.  Start at your leisure and travel at your own pace.  We don't guarantee SAG service after 3:00 p.m. If you are still out on the course at 3:00 p.m. that is fine but we just can't guarantee any SAG service after that time.  Most folks that are attempting the 116 miles are not in by 3:00 p.m. and that is fine.  We hang around until 5:00-6:00 p.m. to make sure riders are in off the course.
